About
Chell Young is a London/Glasgow based Designer & Visual Artist working both independently and within larger Art Departments for Film and TV. She graduated from Painting at Edinburgh College of Art in 2019 and is about to graduate from her Masters of Arts in Production Design at the National Film and TV School 2026. Since 2022, Chell has worked on 15+ live action short films as Production Designer as well as several music videos, commercials and animations. Her work can often be characterised by her bold use of colour, playful material techniques and interest in practical effects. Chell is a strong collaborator and deeply passionate about storytelling through design.
Chell has worked as a Visual Artist and Set Designer since 2021 within Theatre and Live Performance in Scotland. She worked as Assistant Designer to Karen Tennant on Thrown 2023 with The National Theatre of Scotland. Research and Development Designer on Cairns 2023 Directed and written by Anna Whealing at the Tron Theatre Glasgow. She worked as Lead Designer on dance performance Occupying Eden 2021-2023 created by Rosalind Masson performed at Dance Base Edinburgh as part of Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Hellerau European Centre for the Arts, Dresden. Chell has also worked closely with Hidden Door Festival as Art Director in creation of recurring multidisciplinary live shows Imagined Realities and Microsteria 2020-2022. Microsteria is still an ongoing event at Summerhall in Edinburgh, giving a platform to musicians, visual artists, costume makers and performers.
Chell’s sculptural work has been commissioned by Glasgow Life, Manipulate Festival and Hidden Door Festival and her work is held in the Collections of the Royal Scottish Academy.
